Alison Bechdel is also the author of the celebrated bi-weekly syndicated comic strip "Dykes to Watch out For." In publication since 1983, and now featured in over 50 alternative newspapers and publications, the strip has been collected in twelve full-length books, several of which have won awards in humor writing and gay and lesbian literature.
