<p class="MsoBodyTextIndent" style="text-align:justify;line-height:200%"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Hamden Public Library is pleased to announce it will host an evening honoring former U.S. Poet Laureate,
2011 National Medal of Arts recipient and Hamden native, Donald Hall on Friday, September 16 in Thornton Wilder Hall in the Miller Memorial Library complex at 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden. Mr. Hall plans to travel from his New Hampshire home to attend the event.
The program, which begins at 7 p.m., has been developed in collaboration with the Hamden Historical Society, the Connecticut Poetry Society, The Hamden Arts Commission, the Town of Hamden and The Friends of the Hamden Library. Led by Connecticut Poet Laureate,
Dick Allen, the evening will include a presentation by historian Eric Lehman, author of
<i>Hamden : Tales from the Sleeping Giant</i>, readings by the Connecticut Poetry Society and a special presentation by Mayor Scott Jackson.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoBodyTextIndent" style="text-align:justify;line-height:200%"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif""> Mr. Hall, who was born September 20, 1928, grew up in Hamden where his family owned and operated
the Brock-Hall Dairy on Whitney Avenue. He attended Spring Glen Grammar School and Hamden High School before going on to Phillips Exeter Academy then Harvard and Oxford Universities where he devoted his much of time and sensibilities to poetry. Since his
years in Hamden, his publications have been many. <i>The Back Chamber, </i>due out September 14<sup>th</sup> will be his 15<sup>th</sup> book of poetry and he is the author of numerous books of essays, texts on literature and writing, biographies and children’s
books. Accolades for his decades of work continue into his eighth decade of writing.
