<em><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Apex Hides the Hurt</span></em><em><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";font-style:normal"> (2006)</span></em>, which won the PEN/Oakland award;
<em><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Sag Harbor</span></em><em><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";font-style:normal"> (2009)</span></em>, a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner; and, most recently,
<span class="style3"><i>Zone One </i>(2011), a zombie novel set in Manhattan. </span>
He has also written a book of essays about his hometown, <em><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">The Colossus of New York</span></em> (2003), and his reviews, essays, and fiction have appeared in a number of publications, including
