Hello All.

Please read Margaret's reply. I have not tested her answer, but I suspect
she is correct.

Hi Manon and Patricia -

Please let me know if this is NOT the
problem, and send an example of a record that you don't get proper
options for so I can check it out. I logged in with one of your NACO
authorizations when I was talking to OCLC and for both of us it seemed to
be working as expected.

When you have a "new" record, then
you get "add to authority file." When you have an OCLC
record with an ARN that you are editing, you do not get this option, as
you are not adding a record to the authority file, but making changes and
replacing the existing record. So you get (and use) the "replace
record" command.

The zita kovacs record is an existing
authority record, so you would not get "add to authority file."
You get "replace record," and that seemed to be working.

It is confusing because both new and
existing records are in your online save file, and you can't easily tell
which is which except by looking at the record at the ARN number to see
if it has one or not. OCLC has built more extensive functionality into
local save files, but plans to add more functionality for authority
online save file. In particular, on the save file list you do not get
"source" like you get with a bib record list, where you can see
records that are new and records that are OCLC. This will not be in the
next Client release, but it is on their list.

When you are editing an existing record, it
is best if you lock the OCLC record that you are replacing, so that no
one else replaces while you are working on the edits. (It did not look to
me like the zita kovacs record has been locked because I saw no
"locked" message, although the OCLC person said he thought it
was locked. I just wanted to make sure that you are locking as part of
your editing workflow.)

So you would lock, save, edit, and replace.
You are not required to lock in order to replace, but since there is a
time lag between when you start the process and when you finish, it would
be best to lock first so no one else replaces before you and you work
then is wasted.

Please let me know if this does not solve
the problem.
Good morning All.

For some reason we are not able to "Add to Authority File" this
morning. I have talked with Margaret about the problem. It's not an
authorization issue. Margaret is contacting OCLC pronto and will let us
know what she learns.
