<div>LC and OCLC recently announced that they will begin their project of adding non-Latin script references to existing personal and corporate name authority records as of this Sunday, June 1. The non-Latin forms will be harvested from bib records in OCLC.
This initial pre-population phase will go from June 2008 to Jan. 2009, and records that have been through the process will contain a 667 field (non-public note) that will read: "Machine-derived non-Latin script project." LC has made provisions for NACO participants
to take part in certain aspects of the project, however, until it is known what effect these records may have on Voyager when they are loaded, Yale policy for NACO catalogers at this stage will be to leave the pre-populated records untouched. Please do NOT
edit any of the added non-Latin script references in these records. </div>

<div>Also, please do NOT add non-Latin script references to new authority records, even though LC will allow NACO participants to do so. If there is a change in our policy, it will be announced on the list.</div>
