Hi Rowena— You have to create a new record that includes a 4XX for the earlier established form (it has a “$w nne” in it), and then the older heading will be deleted, or at least that was the AACR2 practice, so I’ll have to poke around
in RDA and make sure that hasn’t changed. BFM will be required on anything published using the earlier name. If you want to see a couple of examples look at the authority records for Morris, Jan, 1926- and Boylan, Jennifer Finney, 1958-.

I believe you’d use multiple 375’s to denote gender and date, using the terms male and female, with a birth year in $s for the first one, if available, and the year, or estimated year, the person began identifying as female in $s of the
second 375.

I’ll double check on all of the above for you. Thanks.

I came across a case where the person has undergone male to female sexual reassignment surgery and now goes by a new name. Their latest work is completed but not yet released, and they are using the new name in their advertising.

I thought this would make an interesting RDA practice record, but an AACR2 authority record exists for their original name. Do I just add 400s for their new full name & nickname? Or does the new name go into the 100? (which seems wrong
somehow, since their earlier works were released under the male name). Or do I create a new record for the “new” person with cross refs to the male name? (which may be problematic since I do not yet have the new work in hand).

If I can create a new record, can it be in RDA? If so, what would the correct term be in the 375? The instruction says “gender with which a person identifies” which suggests it should simply be “woman” with an explanation in the comments.
Or should the 375 specify that they are transgender?
