Dear ArchivesSpace colleagues,

I’m writing to let you know that Eve Neiger and I — on behalf of the Yale Archival Management Systems Committee — have recently created some instructions for using ArchivesSpace default values.

ArchivesSpace default values are typically used when the value of a field is very frequently the same across records (e.g., you usually enter file-level components, the same notes are often repeated for new records created within a repository).
Setting default values for repetitive data values is a good way to make your data entry more efficient.

Instructions for using this feature are now in the ASpace at Yale User Manual, here:

Setting Default Values for Fields. Please note that repository-wide default values apply across the repository unless they are in conflict with individual user settings (so, your individual user settings can override your
repository-wide settings). The feature is now described in detail in the manual, but I’d be glad to discuss further, if that would be useful, and would also welcome comments on the text in the manual.
