IS&P has been given the go ahead from Cataloging to resume sending
Orbis Bib<br>
records out to MARS/Backstage for Authority Control processing. This
activity<br>
had been suspended earlier this year, during the test of Backstage, and
our goal<br>
is to have the backlog of approximately 80,000 Bib records loaded back
into Orbis<br>
by the start of December. Orbis Catalog client/Export Q users will
once again notice the <br>
designation of "records in red" when using the client.
These records should not be worked on <br>
by staff while they are out for MARS processing.<br><br>
Additionally, IS&P is anticipating approximately 140,000 records from
RLG<br>
representing the Hebraica and Near East collections. Thanks to the
commitment<br>
of ITS, we are anticipating that this data will also be loaded into Orbis
by<br>
the start of December, to update these records with non-roman
scripts.<br><br>
In order to complete the load of these 220,000 records during the next
ten weeks<br>
we will adhere to the following adjustments:<br><br>
1) Stop all e-resource record loads between now and January. In
particular this<br>
refers to the loading of e-resource collections such as Making of the
Modern Economy, <br>
Evans, ECCO, etc., as well as any new requests for record loads.<br><br>
2) Begin the weekly Keyword Index Build at Noon on Fridays, instead of
5pm.<br>
The impact on staff is that <i>new bibliographic records</i> added after
12pm on Fridays, and <br>
<i>any changes made to bibliographic records</i>, will not be retrievable
by keyword searches <br>
for 8 days from that Friday, in other words, not until the day after the
next Keyword Index Build. <br>
This adjustment will not affect records already in Orbis.<br><br>
