Good morning, all:

I am very pleased to report that yet another record loading backlog is
near completion!

As you know, LCDB is a separate database comprised of bibliographic and
authority records from recent cataloging in the Library of Congress (LC).
Production Systems adds about 20,000 to 40,000 records to this database
every week. In spring of this year, we noticed a steady increase in the
number of records received from LC. By the end of summer, the LCDB record
loads reached over 100,000 records per week and as a result were 2
months behind schedule.

I am happy to report that we are now loading the last* file- LCDB is
now current.

By working with the Cataloging department, we discovered the cause of
this dramatic increase in records. The Library of Congress was including
"premarc" records in the files they sent to us. Production
Systems filtered these "premarc" records out to reduce
the file size and work through the backlog of records that
accumulated.

Thanks to all who contributed to the completion of this project!

Happy holidays,

* Please note that a 1 week delay is inherent in the LCDB loads, i.e. the
most recent file represents cataloging done between 12/6/2005 and
12/12/2005.
