colleagues---
members of the Catalog Dept. have been recently noticing that LC call
numbers for oversize items, correctly formatted in the MFHD's 852 field,
are appearing on the Item Record without the word "Oversize"
in the Call # field.

for an example, see Item Record# 6691032
the
MFHD, HLDG# 7730316
has: 852 01 ‡b sml ‡h HQ1236.5.N5
‡i P76 (LC)+ ‡m Oversize ‡x (Mark by yrs./Bind)
but the call# on the Item Record (#
6691032) displays as: HQ1236.5.N5 ‡i
P76 (LC)+
the "Oversize" is missing from the call# (and it needs to be
there in order to generate the correct call# for the labeling
program).
we've tried deleting the call# and re-keying, creating a diff 852 field,
re-entering/saving, etc., all to no avail.

Integrated Library Technology Services (a.k.a. the Systems Office) has
been notified, and they are looking into the problem.

in the meantime, members of the Catalog Dept. are asked to put aside
any oversize items and not send them to Preparations
until we are able to rectify the call# problem.
perhaps other cataloging units might consider holding on to their
oversize items as well, until this can be resolved.

we'll continue to keep you informed.
thanks, ellen jaramillo.
