<h1><b>New Open WorldCat search tools available for download
</b></h1><br><br>
The Open WorldCat Web site now includes information about tools that can
help you more conveniently search for library materials from your PC
desktop. The three tools featured on this page are: <br><br>
• <b>Yahoo! Toolbar</b>. This special edition on the Yahoo! Toolbar
provides always-there access to Open WorldCat records via Yahoo! Search,
plus the full complement of Yahoo! services. <br><br>
• <b> Google Toolbar with Autolink feature</b>. The newest version of
Google Toolbar enables always-there access to Open WorldCat records
through its Autolink feature. Autolink detects the presence of specific
kinds of information on the current Web page andby pressing the Autolink
button on the Toolbarlinks to related or lookup information for that
item. <br><br>
• <b>Firefox search extensions</b>. Add WorldCat searching to the
Search Bar of the popular open-source Web browser
<a href="http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/">Firefox</a>. >From
an ever-present browser pane, you can enter your search terms and select
the search engine to be queried. <br><br>

<h2><b>Study identifies key experiences that drive Web usage
</b></h2><br><br>
A new study by the Online Publishers Association has found that an
experience that “entertains and absorbs me” is the top driver of Web site
usage.<br><br>
The research project, the <i>Online User Experience Study</i> conducted
in partnership with Northwestern University, identified 22 experiences
that describe and define how people interact with and relate to digital
media. It also determined how each of those specific experiences impacts
site usage. <br><br>

<h2><b>Bill Moen is 2005 OCLC/LITA Kilgour Award Winner
</b></h2><br><br>
William E. Moen of the University of North Texas is the winner of the
Frederick G. Kilgour Award for Research in Library and Information
Technology for 2005. He is being recognized for his research into
protocols and standards for information retrieval, and investigations
into interoperability and metadata utilization, which are making
important contributions to improving the ways library systems
communicate. <br><br>
