<p><img src="http://www.oclc.org/emailcontent/articles/abstracts/images/citationview_abstracts.gif" width="296" height="370" hspace="12" align="right">OCLC continues to put social functionality into WorldCat.org in order to build a social network of the world’s library users. Among the latest enhancements:</p>
<p><strong>Citation management for lists</strong>. Users can generate citations for their personalized lists of WorldCat-cataloged items in one of five common citation styles: APA, Chicago, Harvard, MLA or Turabian. They also can export the list in their selected citation style. Exported list citations can be saved locally in HTML, Rich Text or RIS format, and are compatible with Endnote bibliographic software or the RefWorks research management Web tool.</p>
<p><strong>Add a bookmark option</strong>. This new feature lets users add library-owned items to bookmarks at popular social Web sites, such as Digg, del.icio.us, Facebook, Yahoo! and Google. </p>

<p>Deloitte’s 2007 <em>State of the Media Democracy</em> survey reveals how different generations are “consuming” media:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p><STRONG>High demand for user-generated content</STRONG>. Content may be king, but industry-created content has stiff competition. User-generated content is in tremendous demand across the generations, with half of all consumers (51 percent) watching and/or reading content created by others. And, while Millennials are at the forefront of this trend, Xers, Boomers and Matures are also participating.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><STRONG>Long live traditional media.</STRONG> While the Internet is surging in popularity, traditional media—TV, magazines and books—remain deeply engaging to all generations. Each is passionate about their favorite TV shows and they utilize DVRs to view what they want, when they want. Almost three-quarters (72 percent) of all consumers read magazines, even when the same content is available online. And, a healthy percentage (23 percent) of all Americans say they want to pick up a book in the coming year.</p>

<li>
<p><strong>What does the future hold?</strong> Sixty-four percent of Millennials, 20 percent of Matures and 48 percent of all consumers want to easily connect their home TV to the Internet. Fifty-seven percent of Millennials and 37 percent of Xers want an all-in-one device. Sixty percent of Millennials and 45 percent of Xers want to be able to easily move their TV shows, podcasts, movies and other media to any devices/platforms they own.</p>

ERIC is partnering with OCLC to leverage WorldCat to provide users with a link from ERIC records to electronic and print resources available in libraries. The feature dramatically streamlines the process of obtaining full text.</p>
<p>The <em>Find in a Library</em> feature will lead either to a search of the library’s electronic holdings and seamless access to available full text, or to a search of WorldCat with the ability to find the nearest library with a print or electronic version of the material.</p>
