Along with the Columbia University Libraries Reference Coordinating

Committee, I am pleased to invite you to participate in Beyond the
<br>
Desk - the 6th annual Columbia University Libraries Reference
Services <br>
Symposium on Friday, March 14th, 2008.<br><br>
This day-long event will explore how technology and other factors
have <br>
changed reference services as well as our interactions with <br>
colleagues. It will offer opportunities to discuss new trends
and <br>
technologies in on-campus and distance education. Our keynote
<br>
speaker, Joe Janes, Associate Professor and Associate Dean for
<br>
Academics at the Information School at the University of
Washington, <br>
will be followed by contributed papers. After lunch, we will
<br>
reconvene for a stimulating panel discussion, Energy and
Experience.<br><br>
These reference symposia seek to bring together reference
librarians, <br>
heads of reference departments, and public service managers from
large <br>
research libraries in the Northeast to share ideas, concerns and
plans <br>
about reference services, and we would like to have you join us as
a <br>
part of this exciting dialogue. Please invite reference
librarians <br>
from your institution to participate in this event. A schedule
