Dear friends and carillon enthusiasts,
How fast time flies! This Friday will be our final concert of Summer
Series 2010. We have Milford Myhre, carillonneur emeritus of the Bok
Singing Tower in Florida. Milford was formerly the president of the Guild
of Carillonneurs in North America and the World Carillon Federation, and
has been awarded the Berkeley Medal, Honorary Memberships in the G.C.N.A.,
La Guilde des Carillonneurs de France, and an Honorary Doctorate of Music
from The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.
Milford's program for Friday is dedicated to the memory of Sally Slade
Warner, former carillonneur at St. Stephen's Church, Cohasset, MA, who
passed away last year. The pieces, too, are arranged by her, and showcase
the ability of the carillon to adapt to different genres and styles of
music, from folksongs to popular music. However, Milford will begin and
end his concert with pieces by Albert Gerken and Ronald Barnes, two other
prolific American writers for the carillon.
We hope to see you on Friday, and we would also like to thank you for your
support this summer.
Nick and Julie
