Last week was a wonderful start to the 2026 concert series, it was great to reconnect with so many friends, and to meet so many new ones as well! We are back this week with some more beautiful music shared together over a lovely sunset. This week's performer is *Michael Gancz*! [image: MichaelGancz.JPG] Michael is a carillonist, composer and music researcher from Rockville, Maryland. They served as co-chair of the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs from 2020 to 2022, after which they graduated with their M.A. and B.A. in music. Gancz holds a diploma from the Royal Carillon School ?Jef Denyn? in Mechelen Belgium and is a research fellow emeritus of the Belgian American Educational Foundation. They have been a carillonneur member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America since 2023. And they are so, so excited to return to New Haven for this year?s summer series! Gancz is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), with a particular focus on music, medicine, and emerging technologies. They serve as a carillonist at the Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Carillon in Palo Alto, CA. Outside of work and school, they like to develop video games, play in bands, experiment with sourdough, and support Tottenham Hotspur. She currently serves as the carillonneur of the Riverside Church, where she plays its 100+ ton, 74-bell carillon. Previously, she taught at Indiana University?s (IU) Jacobs School of Music as an Associate Instructor in Carillon, where she built and taught a vibrant carillon studio, dedicated two newly renovated carillons, performed weekly recitals, collaborated with student composers, commissioned a trio of new works by female composers, and authored her second children?s book on carillons. In recognition of her dedication to making carillon accessible and exciting to performers, listeners, and composers alike, Lynnli was awarded the IU New Music Performance Award, the IU Lieber Memorial Teaching Award, the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools Teaching Award, and one of The Diapason?s 20 Under 30 awards. Lynnli?s carillon journey began at Yale in 2011 with Ellen Dickinson, while completing her degree in literature. More than thirty of her students have completed the exam process to become Carillonneur members of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA). In 2020, Ellen was commissioned by a consortium of six colleges to write A New Carillon Book, a beginning carillon lesson book featuring diverse music from many people and places, and original music. Ellen has been responsible for commissioning over 70 new pieces for carillon, including the largest new music project in the history of the carillon art: ?50 for the 50th ,? 50 new works in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Yale Memorial Carillon. She was awarded the GCNA Certificate of Extraordinary Service in 2017 for distinguished service to the carillon art worldwide. Ellen is Artistic Director of Music on the Hill, an independent music organization with performing ensembles and music education opportunities. Yale 2026 Summer Series Concert Message-ID: Happy Thursday, Amidst the orange haze in the air, the 54 bell Yale Memorial Carillon still rings true and strong, slicing the smoky thickness with candor and might. This Friday, 717, we look forward to welcoming you all to the Branford College Courtyard (*74 High St*, New Haven, CT 06511) for another epic carillon concert! Doors will open at *6:30PM*, and the concert lasts from 7:00-8:00PM. Concerts will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/@yaleguild), including a live view of the playing cabin to be able to actually watch the performance. This week, we welcome one Jeremy Ng! [image: JeremyNg.png] Jeremy Ng is a software engineer, certified Carillonneur Member of the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America (GCNA), and former Assisting Carillonneur of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. He graduated from Yale University in 2026 with a B.S. in Computer Science and Astrophysics, studied carillon with Ellen Dickinson for four years and spent a summer at the Royal Carillon School ?Jef Denyn? in Mechelen, Belgium, and was a member of the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs from 2022 to 2026. In 2024, he helped organize and perform in the Yale Summer Carillon Concert Series at Harkness Tower as Co-Summer Carillonneur, and he has performed on carillons across the United States, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Also an accredited member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), Jeremy studied organ under Dr. Mark Brombaugh for two years and became the first Yale undergraduate in seven years to debut a solo recital on the Newberry Organ in Woolsey Hall. Before Yale, Jeremy spent four years in the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, studying piano with Efrem Briskin and cello with David Geber; as a seasoned performer, he has appeared as a pianist at Carnegie Hall and played cello and organ in numerous orchestral ensembles, most recently with the Yale Symphony Orchestra. He also studied conducting under William Boughton and led the Yale Davenport Pops Orchestra as Conductor for two years. He is excited to return to his home carillon to perform! This week's concert is a very special one, because the performers are your very own summer carillonneurs! *Eric Gan* [image: ericGan.jpeg] Eric Gan is a rising second year Ph.D. student in Microbiology at Yale, where he is co-mentored by Drs. Jing Yan and Noah Palm. Previously, he completed his undergraduate degree at Yale, graduating in 2025 with a joint B.S./M.S. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Originally from the California Bay Area, Eric now lives in New Haven with his cat, Toast. Though much of his time is devoted to scientific endeavors, music has always been an integral part of his life. Eric began playing piano at the age of 5 and gave his first public solo performance at the age of 9 while studying with Dr. Igor Schochetman. From 2017 to 2021, Eric was a recipient of the U.S. Chopin Foundation Scholarship, and, under the tutelage of Ning An, was a first prize laureate of the 2019 Los Angeles International Piano Competition and grand finalist of the 2020 Redlands Bowl Concerto Competition, where he performed with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra. As an undergraduate, he was a finalist of the 2024 William Waite Concerto Competition, as well as co-president, pianist, and percussionist for the Davenport Pops Orchestra (DPops), Yale?s largest musical ensemble. In the fall of 2025, Eric joined the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs, doubling his repertoire of keyboard instruments. Since then, he has toured internationally with the Guild, performing in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States. As a 2026 Yale summer carillonneur, he is excited to grow his carillon repertoire and engage with the carillon community, both audiences and performers alike. *Parker Verran* [image: Headshot.jpg] Parker Verran is a rising undergraduate sophomore at Yale, studying Chemistry (graduating 2029). Parker is deeply involved in his science career on campus, including several Yale STEM mentoring programs, and his work in the Malaker Lab, a mass spectrometry lab focused on mucins. Yet despite this science-focused academic career, music has played a foundational role in Parker?s life. Starting with clarinet in the third grade, he fell in love with the collaboration and entrancing beauty that comes with making music. Having learned seven instruments, Parker played in and led many ensembles (string quartet, marching band, drumline, orchestra saxophone sextet) throughout his life. Among these instruments and experiences, playing piano became an emotional refuge and a particular favorite. Naturally, this love for the keyboard led him to the Guild, where he discovered a passion for the bells. He loves how carillon music surrounds the audience with a rich sound, and how one can get lost in the sounds of the bells. Highlights from his time in the Guild have included touring across Europe and getting to play carillons that are centuries old, and finding incredible community with his fellow Yale carillonneurs. The 2026 Yale Summer Concerts have been a pleasure to put on. It has been great to meet all of you, and to build a community around a shared love of music. Tomorrow, we will gather once more to share this special music. He graduated from Yale in 2025 with a B.A. in linguistics. During his four years in the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs, he studied under Ellen Dickinson and served as co-chair from 2023 to 2024. He has also studied under Eddy Mari?n at the Royal Carillon School ?Jef Denyn? in Mechelen, Belgium, and has been a GCNA carillonneur member since 2025. Currently, he lives and works as a high school teacher in the beautiful Chinese province of Anhui, where he hopes that country?s first carillon will one day be built.
