5 April 2001, numerous Mourning Cloaks (Nymphalis antiopa) on
West Rock ridge between Judge's Cave and the I-15 tunnel. Was
there looking for hairstreak eggs with a Japanese lep friend,
Teruo Utsumi; we found several probable Banded (Satyrium calanus) on
hickory twigs but no Edwards (Satyrium edwardsii) on scrub oak
twigs; also no Coral (Satyrium titus) on cherry twigs (Prunus
virginiana) but did find one batch of Catocala ultronia eggs
among the cherries.
