Just saw Bill's post upon getting back from spending the day on hawk duty at Lighthouse Point. In interesting contrast to Bill's observations at Hammo (including a bit of naturalist-manship involving the pear tree of which anyone would be proud) LHP saw a fair movement of Monarchs (50+ per hour) and a small but steady passage of Red Admirals. I would estimate about 20 Admirals per hour at my vantage point, but of course LHP is wide and bordered inland by heavy vegetation. This butterfly could have been moving through in bigger numbers outside of my viewing area. There were also thousands of dragonflies, which as Bill noted is another story.
Also, in response to an earlier post on Painted Lady, Bill and I were out Tuesday in the Guilford area and had fresh-looking Painted Ladies when ever we were in good habitat. I think we only had one American Lady.
