Rich -
It would be fun to see what weather conditions existed just prior to and following Sept. 15th, to evaluate 1) whether the Monarchs were able to "hang around" Hammo either pre- or post-tagging to build up energy reserves and thus give them a better chance at making it to Mexico, or 2) maybe there was a good frontal system immediately after tagging on the 15th that gave them a good push in the direction of Mexico and not the Azores.
That could make a good research project for a high school / college student - "tracking" the 9/15 Monarchs both before and after the tagging date.

Subject: Another Monarch Recovery
Just received a notice from Monarch Watch that Monarch #AAI814 tagged on Sept. 15 2001 at Hammo was recovered in El Rosario Mexico. This makes a total of 3 CBA tagged Monarchs that have been recovered in Mexico. There must have been something special about Sept 15. Of the 5 CBA tagged Monarchs recovered, 4 were tagged on Sept. 15th (no date was reported for the 5th one). We tagged 195 Monarchs the 15th and 265 on other dates in Sept and Oct. yet no recoveries from the other dates. Rich Chyinski
