Hi All,
Earlier this week, I caught a quick glimpse of a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth checking out the grapevines in my backyard.
Yesterday, at the Killingworth Library, I saw my first Luna Moth--or about 80% of one. It was tucked under the edge of the library--at first I thought it was dead, and I was going to try to pick it up, but when I touched it, it moved, so I left it there. It was missing about half of its left hindwing, but I figured it might have been just waiting for nighttime to take flight again. My five-year-old tried to tell my mother about it--she kept talking about the Moona Loth :-)
On the subject of moths, don't forget to check out John Himmelman's field trip next Saturday! June 19, 10 AM, Bent-of-the-River in Southbury. Go to www.ctbutterfly.org for more info/directions.
