The habitat at the powerlines has taken quite a beating from CL&P, which in many cases can be beneficial to butterflies, as they clear out trees and brush under the lines and around the poles. However, they evidently were using herbicides to target small (under 5 foot high) Red Cedars, leaving a severely denuded cedar and a large patch of dead vegetation around the tree itself. Near the big poles, there was some brush cutting done and a few trees were cut down. It will remain to be seen if the spot-herbiciding will be deleterious to the butterflies.
Also, there was a Cerulean Warbler singing his brains out by the metal gate at the bottom of the hill.
