Butterfly Sightings

Monday, July 3rd-  I visited sites in Cheshire and Hamden and found a  total 
of 25 species of butterflies.  The list for the day is as  follows:
 
Fresh Meadows Sanctuary, Cheshire
 
Spicebush Swallowtail (1)
Cabbage White (2)
Orange Sulphur (2)
American Copper (2)
Eastern Tailed Blue (1)
Summer Azure (1)
Great Spangled Fritillary (7)
Pearl Crescent (2)
Little Wood Satyr (1) (worn, from first brood)
Monarch (1)
Silver-spotted Skipper (3)
Hoary Edge (3)
Least Skipper (2)
Peck's Skipper (2) (very worn)
European Skipper (2)
Little Glassywing (4)
 
Brooksvale Park & adjacent Brooksvale Ave., Hamden
 
Tiger Swallowtail (1) (worn individual from second brood)
Cabbage White (2)
Clouded Sulphur (2)
Orange Sulphur (1)
American Copper (1)
Coral Hairstreak (38)
Banded Hairstreak (1)
Eastern Tailed Blue (2)
Summer Azure (1)
Great Spangled Fritillary (13)
Common Wood Nymph (1)
Silver-spotted Skipper (6)
Hoary Edge (2)
European Skipper (21)
Peck's Skipper (1) (very worn)
Tawny-edged Skipper (1) (very worn)

Hobomok Skipper (1) (male, very worn)
 
The most productive area was the fields on the corner of Brooksvale Ave and  
Mount Sanford Rd.
