I was driving by the Hackberry Tree in my yard wondering if the Mourning Cloak larvae would be there again this year. I noticed one "dead" looking branch up near the top. A closer look produced 146 caterpillars.
Last year it was June 21st when Ted Hendrickson and I saw them for the first time. These are almost as large now as last years were on the 21st so I would say these are a couple of weeks earlier.
Also, on the Swamp Milkweed in my yard, two Monarch caterpillars (that I found). One about 1/2 inch long and the other just over 1/4 inch.
Pictures if you want them.
