Will the weather hold? I don't want to jinx it, but if it does, go to West Rock Park at 10 AM this Sunday to join Larry Gall in a search for early butterflies! More info/directions at www.ctbutterfly.org

My classroom at Westbrook H.S. overlooks a courtyard. Today I saw my FOTY Tiger Swallowtail there. Also saw at least one cabbage white and a couple of sulphurs. Can't get a close look from my window--may have been both clouded and orange on different occasions.

Then, on the ride home, I saw one Tiger Swallowtail in Chester. Got home, almost stepped on an Azure when I went out to get the mail--it flew straight up in front of me! Looked out the window later and saw something large and black in the lilacs. It was up top, so I couldn't get a great look at it, but it appeared to have a lot of blue on top, so I'm assuming Spicebush Swallowtail. And then a Cabbage White flew past.

My seven-year-old daughter, reading over my shoulder, just informed me that SHE saw a Tiger Swallowtail in the yard YESTERDAY. So competitive!
