Sunday 7 May 2006, accomodating sunny weather at West Rock
State Park (for a change!) with about 15 folks on the CBA walk:

Falcate Orangetip (Anthocharis midea), 10+
Cabbage White (Pieris rapae), 3-4
Yellow Sulphur (Colias philodice), 1
Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes), 1
Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio troilus), 2
Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus), 3-4
Eastern Tailed Blue (Everes comyntas), 1
Pine Elfin (Callophrys niphon), 1
Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys grynea), 5+
Question Mark (Polygonia interrogationis), 1
Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa), 2-3
Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos), 2
Juvenal's Duskywing (Erynnis juvenalis), 50+

Others included many day flying Metarranthis
moths, and some newly hatched gypsy moth and geometrid
caterpillars. We bumped into some members of New
Jersey NABA and Massachusetts Butterfly Club around
Judge's Cave, who also proved to be out enjoying the
day. They reported one individual West Virginia
White (Pieris virgniensis) at the Reeds Gap Road
locality later in the afternoon.

Best,

Larry
