On Saturday, 6/23, I visited Flaherty Field Trial Area in East Windsor.
Despite a cold, windy start to the day, I was able to find a total of 22 species
of butterflies. The list for the day is as follows:
Cabbage White (21)
Clouded Sulphur (11)
Orange Sulphur (8)
Eastern Tailed Blue (2)
Summer Azure (1)
Great Spangled Fritillary (12)
Baltimore Checkerspot (2) (My first of the year; I see that Rich Chyinski
also had them today in eastern CT.)
Question Mark (1)
Compton Tortoiseshell (1) (A freshly emerged adult; possibly a new species
for Flaherty Field Trial Area)
American Lady (39)
Red Admiral (1)
Little Wood Satyr (2)
Silver-spotted Skipper (3)
Southern Cloudywing (2)
Northern Cloudywing (1)
Least Skipper (5)
European Skipper (120)
Peck's Skipper (40)
Tawny-edged Skipper (2) (very worn)
Northern Broken Dash (1) (My first of the year.)
Little Glassywing (7) (My first of the year.)
Zabulon Skipper (5) (All males)
