A few of you may remember that last year I raised a batch of Cecropias. In
2005, I found two small caterpillars on a cherry tree. I raised them out and in
2006, as luck would have it, they emerged, one male and one female. They mated
that's how I got last year's brood.
I must've had over 50 caterpillars, gave some away, raised some in a protected
enclosure, and let many fend for themselves outside on a Kwazaan cherry tree.
Today, my Dad found a beautiful Cecropia moth crawling along the ground. I
believe it's a female and she came from one of the two cocoons in the tree that
I kept track of over the winter.
Isn't it a little early for Cecropias in CT?
I thought it had to be warm and humid for them to emerge.
