In the past I have been critical of the way NU and the DEP protected or fail
to protect critical habitat that contained endangered species. Now it is
time to send some praise their way.
Sat. I walked a transmission line ROW where line work was scheduled. The
access roads had been mowed, not bulldozed, signs, with photos, were placed
through out the ROW designating Box Turtle habitat. Signs and temporary fencing
were placed to protect areas containing endangered plant species.
Some real positive steps taken by NU and the DEP.
To all butterflyers, birders, botanist etc. and anyone concerned about these
critical habitats, NU has hired Associate Scientists whose job it is to see
that the critical habitat and endangered species within transmission line ROW
are minimally affected by work within the ROW. Get to know these people,
are very aware of the past problems. They and NU are willing to work with us to
help protect this habitat.
