spider question

Diane,
I'm not sure, but it might have been a wolf spider
carrying it's brood of young on it's back, and thus
making it look much bigger than it really is.  Years
ago, I saw a large brown spider that almost looked
like a small pine cone.  Upon being disturbed, all the
young fled off of the mother.  A naturalist I was with
told me what we were witnessing.
