Just reporting in that the eggs that were laid on the Spicebush plants in the Trumbull Nature Center on Sat May 23 hatched yesterday. I was surprised to see that the process took 2 weeks. The eggs were laid by one of the 4 adults which had emerged that morning from chrysalids I had wintered over. It was like a full circle as the caterpillars had been found on these small bushes last summer ,raised by me and wintered over in my garage. Many people visiting the Center at various times during the year learned about the amazing life of these butterflies. My advice to all is put a spicebush in your yard! Ruthie
