Annual Betty Kleiner Lecture - Lifestyles of East Coast Butterflies
On Sunday, April 18th at 2 PM, Richard Cech will be the featured speaker at
Roaring Brook Nature Center's annual Betty Kleiner Memorial Lecture.
Butterfly lifestyles reflect intimate links with the host plants on which they
feed. Why do butterflies select certain hosts? How do host plants fight
back against browsing caterpillars? How does plant choice affect other key
aspects of a butterfly's lifestyle, from when it emerges as an adult to how it
spends the winter? Find out the answers to these questions, plus many
interesting and surprising facts about butterflies' hidden lives. Rick Cech, a
former West Hartford resident, is co-author of "Butterflies of the East
Coast: An Observer's Guide"
Admission to this program is free to Hartford Audubon Society members as
well as members of the Connecticut Butterfly Association and the Connecticut
Ornithological Association. The program fee is $5.00 for others. Additional
information is available by calling the Nature Center at (860) 693-0263.
