A beautiful, warm, sunny day on Saturday at West Rock for more than 20 butterfliers! The list for the morning was perhaps a little skimpy, but cameo close-ups of Juniper Hairstreaks and Falcate Orangetips were memorable. The spring season is moving along quickly, if mature to nearly mature tent caterpillars (Malacosoma americana) on 1 May are any index:

Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes), 2-3
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus), 15+
Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio Troilus), 2-3
Cabbage White (Pieris rapae), 2-3
Falcate Orangetip (Anthocharis midea), 10+
Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys grynea), 3-4
Eastern Tailed Blue (Cupido comyntas), 3-4
Juvenal's Duskywing (Erynnis juveanlis), 20+

Best, Larry
