The beginning of the explosion last year started on my rue plant in Chester!  It's thriving--I hope that the Giants find me again this year!!

...but it is a Giant.

A smaller size Giant Swallowtail this afternoon around 1:30 clinging to some plants a few inches above the ground. Initially it struggled to take flight with wing tips that were not fully formed but has now taken flight.
Interesting, there is a Rue plant within a foot of where the butterfly was first seen. Some references show Rue as a host plant in the north. I did have a Giant in my yard last summer.
Could it be that Giants are using Rue here in CT and will it mean a new over wintering butterfly for CT?
