[Ctleps-l] GS Fritillary flux?

Hello all,

Here in my backyard/garden, for many years GS fritillaries have been
the commonest late summer
butterflies. But not this year; thus far their numbers seem way
down... Have others seen this?

Instead, we've had the wave of Painted ladies: up to 10 at a time on
our single Buddleja last week. They
seem to have dropped off now. Earlier (first half of August) we had
two Giant swallowtails hanging around.

I was happy to see 8 GSF's yesterday at a field in Bethel, along with
2-3 Monarchs, at least one Red-banded hairstreak
& an unidentified duskwing (moved too quickly for my untrained eye).
They seemed to be ignoring all the goldenrods
& asters but were focused on some Bull thistles (Cirsium vulgare).
