iCBug is an online database that started off as the Connecticut Butterfly
Atlas Project in 1995. The goal of the Atlas project was to map the
distribution of butterfly species in the state. This site has taken the
data produced from the project and digitized it to provide an online user
interaction. Users can explore the different butterflies around Connecticut
and can search for them by name, location and description. Observations and
photos can be added from a variety of devices. The project is sponsored by
the Yale Peabody Museum and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Jim Sirch has worked as Education Coordinator at the Yale Peabody Museum of
Natural History for over ten years. Previously, he volunteered as
newsletter editor for CBA, and installed a Christine Cook-designed
butterfly garden at Bear Path School in Hamden, CT. Jim is also an adjunct
professor of biology at Sacred Heart University, where he has taught
courses in wildlife ecology. He is known to hundreds of science teachers
across Connecticut through his professional development activities at the
museum. In 2012, Jim was awarded the Sig Abeles Science Advocate Award from
the Connecticut Science Teachers Association and Connecticut Science
Supervisors Association for outstanding service to science education in
Connecticut
