[Ctleps-l] Lone Monarch

I had a lone monarch flying high above my house in Norwalk today 09/26, headed West. I thought it might stop at my flowers but it did not.

9/25
I walked Griswold Pt from west to east (no double counts) around 10am and counted 34 Monarchs  on Seaside Goldenrod.  I'm sure more came through before and after.

Also 3 Mourning Cloaks, 12 Orange Sulphurs, about the same Cabbage Whites and 1 Sachem.

Carol and I went to Lighthouse Point Park this afternoon to tag some Monarchs.? Only found 2 that we could tag, 1 F and 1 M.? A third Monarch was pretty chewed up.? I think it was the same butterfly that was hanging around on Sunday.? Not having any luck at LHPP we went to Hammonasset Beach SP/Meigs Point to see what we could find and do a little birding.? At the garden behind the nature center we had a good number of Monarchs and between 4:55 and 5:30 we tagged 13, 4 F and 9 M.? After 5:30 the Monarchs that were arriving at the garden went to roost in the Black Pines near the picnic tables.? We will go back Thursday and try to tag more as they come off their night roost and begin to feed before leaving on their journey to MX.? We are hoping there will be a good number of Monarchs moving thru in the next week or two.

Glad to hear that you were able to get some tagged at Hammonasset. That chewed up one sure is a little trooper. He might just make it to Mexico yet! I hope you're correct in thinking they will start moving through soon. By the way, please tell Carol that I have confirmed that the SGPA does, indeed, have 5013c status.

Was surprised to see this butterfly. It is a first for me.

Looked worn, but was still sprightly.

Staten Island, so not for your atlas. The CT-LEPS emails are the first
place I go to for info on where to begin looking for ID.
