Another wonderful field trip to Bauer Park in Madison on Saturday, August 9.
It is a great piece of preserved property with wild areas, meadows, and
community gardens.
About 17 people attended, some had met before on other trips and a few were
attending for the first time. All were enthusiastic!
Thanks to the young men and their Dad, the dragonfly specialists, who
netted many great butterflies for us to ID and release...really helped so much
our list
Summer Azure
Tiger Swallowtails, several
Black Swallowtails, many of both sexes, nectaring in the fields of Queen
Anne's Lace
Dunn Skipper
Tawny edged Skipper
American Lady
Silver Spotted Skippers many
Eastern Tailed Blue
Orange Sulphurs
Cabbage Whites
Pearl Crescents
Zabbulon Skipper
Great Spangled Fritillary
Viceroy
Broadwinged Skipper
Mulberry Wing Skipper
Wild Indigo Duskywing
And finally Several Monarchs...
I met a lady who had collected several Monarch eggs from the surrounding
fields. A good sign for fall migration.
I had hoped for Giant Swallowtail and Horace's Duskywing. No luck but the
Monarchs made up for it.
Thanks everyone for your help.
