I went to Macricostas yesterday for about an hour and a half and nothing
was on the wing; I could only produce a few Spangled Frits and a bunch of
Whites. Today was a different story. Between Macricostas and the Boy
Scout Camp, I saw:
Cabbage White
Banded Hairstreak
Eastern Tailed-Blue
Summer Azure
Baltimore Checkerspot -- Finally, some non-larval Baltimores! 7
freshly-emerged adults and incredibly, still two larvae munching away on
turtlehead
Question Mark -- FoY
Eastern Comma
Viceroy
Northern Pearly-eye -- FoY and two individuals where I had never seen them
before
Appalachian Brown -- FoY
Little Wood-Satyr
Common Wood-Nymph -- FoY
HOARY EDGE -- Finally! I had always thought this could be at Steep Rock
but in ten years of looking was never able to turn one up. Obviously, FoY
Least Skipper
European Skipper
Tawny-edged Skipper -- well worn
Northern Broken Dash -- FoY
Little Glassywing -- FoY
Delaware Skipper -- FoY and in immaculate condition offering great shots
There really is a changeover in species after the late June lull!
