CHECKERED WHITE where the sand bar meets the mainland.

This was a fresh male, a different individual than the one Stefan M. had
yesterday. It appears that there is a colony here; all other whites I had
good looks at were Cabbage, but others that never got close could be either
species. Males of the two species are difficult to separate while flying.
Stratford Point, Stratford - Three definite Swarthy Skippers based on wear
and location, but they were fairly common. I'd estimate seven.

On the way home, my dad and I stopped at the Kellogg Center at Osbornedale
SP in Derby. We had 15-20 Red-banded Hairstreaks on the ground in the shade
in a 12x12 ft space! They were nectaring on fallen golden rain tree
blossoms. Walking through the area would send them up before they quickly
returned back to the ground.
