I didn't spend much time out today but had a treat nonetheless. Our land
manager had been doing some work in one of our lesser-known parcels and saw
a butterfly; he spooked it and it flew to the top of a Cedar making him
think of Juniper Hairstreak. Timing seemed a bit off for a second brood of
Junipers, but when I checked it out, it turned out to be Coral Hairstreak,
a first in Steep Rock, bringing our list to an even 75 species. I can't
resist attaching a shot as it was so fresh.
Full list follows:
Cabbage White
Banded Hairstreak
Coral Hairstreak -- probably 6 individuals
Summer Azure
Great Spangled Fritillary
Meadow Fritillary
Red-spotted Purple
Little Wood-Satyr
Common Wood-Nymph
European Skipper
