Hi, a dozen intrepid folks hiked foggy West Rock today and were rewarded for persevering past noontime, when it warmed up and got just bright enough for eight butterfly species to show: Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa, n=1), American Lady (Vanessa virginensis, n=1), Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos, n=1), Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon, n=1), Eastern Tailed Blue (Cupido comyntas, n=1), Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys grynea, n=5+), Falcate Orangetip (Anthocharis midea, n=5+), Juvenal's Duskywing (Erynnis juvenalis, n=15+). Quite a few Orangetip eggs were also located on Arabis spp., as well as an abundance throughout of tent caterpillars (Malocosama americana). Best, Larry
