Yes, I did say Summer Azure. In places where there are no obvious azure flights in spring, but a lone violacea type azure appears – it is most likely a Summer Azure. I’ve probably advertised this before, but I have a gallery of azures of different species and forms at my web site https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__stevewalternature.com_&d=AwIFaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=4s9duTOCse68_OCwLWAM2p9P11gnRx_7YTSfJMWs8fQ&s=qMLWSZ0u1RsQ-nofRc-Q8O86TAqGKA3JMb3H2g_mlyc&e= (click the Butterflies tab). I think I’ve worked them out and feel good about the IDs. Check it out and go have fun (or whatever word you choose to use) with the azures you run into in the next few weeks.

In addition to the azure, I came across an American Lady, Mourning Cloak, and Cabbage Whites, spending my lunch break in Queens’ Alley Pond Park. That was four more species than I had of migratory birds. But four species of butterflies was nice. Since ants have begun their seasonal invasion of my house, I think I’m owed some good insects.
