7/11/16 - I took my parents to a few spots in the Northwest corner, my mom
wanted to see the area having never been up there. Party sunny skies early
on gave way to a mix of clouds and sun. The highlights were a fresh Common
Checkered Skipper and a Harvester at Robbins Swamp WMA in Canaan. They were
puddling about 50 feet apart on the dirt road made of marble from one of
the nearby quarries. This road is probably is the best place in the state
to see puddling rare species - I had 4-5 Milbert's Tortoiseshells here in
2010, and it's a good place for a Gray Comma to show up. They love the
minerals from the marble. Park at pulloff on Route 126 and walk to where
the dirt road meets 126.

The skipper, dorsal view: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__flic.kr_p_Jc5dQn&d=CwIBaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=4hpglHCLfFiifozN4cVrxDuZuCBWdmwtuXZWOBOgdHs&s=EeHRpxqfXpIXpTnfrb1YYB0VXAG85LnYR6ZAOq5eR6s&e=

Other puddling species included Pearl Crescents, Eastern Comma (3), and a
Red Admiral. Two flyby Browns went unidentified.

We also visited nearby Hollenbeck Preserve (trail off Page Rd):

Tiger Swallowtail 2
Great Spangled Fritillary 4
Orange Sulphur 1
Pearl Crescent 10
Baltimore Checkerspot 5
Red Admiral 1
Eyed Brown 5
Common Wood Nymph 2
Least Skipper 3
Mulberry Wing 1
Black Dash 3

The Dion flight appears to be over. The highlight came while I was trying
to photograph a Black Dash when a Pearl Crescent photobombed my shot:

We also found a Leopard Frog (and had another at Robbins Swamp):
