One addendum to the list. Jim Dugan, Jeff ___ and I had an Eastern Pine Elfin nectaring on a birdsfoot violet stand along the road to Judges Cave.

A little belated on the email here, the West Rock field trip on Saturday 5 May was attended by 16 people (at various times and places and groups) and a total of 14 species of butterflies were seen (by the time everyone reported back to me by late afternoon). Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus: 1), Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes:2), Cabbage White (Pieris rapae: 2), Falcate Orange-Tip (Anthocharis midea: 30+, no eggs on Arabis yet, females fresh), Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon: 4), Eastern Tailed Blue (Cupido comyntas: 1), Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus: 3), Brown Elfin (Callophrys augustinus: 4, singletons in four locations), Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys grynea: 10+), White-M Hairstreak (Parrhasius m-album: 3, posing for photography), Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa: 2), American Lady (Vanessa virginensis: 1), Eastern Comma (Polygonia comma: 1), Juvenal’s Duskywing (Erynnis juvenalis: 2). Caterpillar season is still significantly delayed, the index being Tent Caterpillars (Malacosoma americana) were generally only in second instar. Best, Larry
