Hello Everyone,
Thanks for coming to the first YUL Fedora Users' Group meeting this morning!
After checking with Karen, I am using the Dev Forum users' listserv to
send out notes from today's informal session on Fedora. Please take a
look at the list below and send me corrections, additions, comments,
etc. I'll distribute a final amended list, if necessary, at the end of
the week.
Best regards,
Beth

1. This first informal session has as its goal the preparation of
questions and concepts
to bring to next week's Fedora Users' Conference at UVa. Beth, Jeff,
Audrey, and others will be attending this conference.
2. A rough list of topics, concepts, details to listen for or discuss at
the conference follows:
- developing partnerships: a) with VTLS; b) tools to share or purchase
from UVa and other institutions, e.g. Rutgers; c) who intends to
license what
- indexing and searching; how did UVa handle this? how is their
integration different from VTLS?
- search engine: Gert Schmeltz Pedersen has worked on searching; along
with Christiaan Kortekaas who worked on Fez, a Fedora
front-end search supporting UTF8.
- integration of Fedora with Sakai
- handle server
- usability and presentation issues
- our use cases from the VITAL evaluation
- metadata standards
- security: a) at preservation stream, b) hack prevention, c) access
controls, d) customizing based on IPR
- disseminator reuse
- markup tools and preparation packages
- integrating vendor software with Fedora
That's all for now from the FUG.
