Call for papers
for an edited volume inspired by the panel

“Spanish Socio-historical Linguistics: Isolation and Contact”
presented at the 23 rd International Conference on Historical Linguistics

Manuscripts are invited for an edited volume on Spanish socio-historical
linguistics. Scholars are invited to contribute their original and
unpublished research revolving around the crucial role of contact and
isolation as determining factors in the history of Spanish worldwide.
Suggested topics include the mapping of historical trends extending from
the Old to the New World, the exploration of innovations that began through
contact or isolation in medieval Spanish, or the
investigation of sociohistorical trends still prevalent in particular
varieties of present-day Spanish. Ultimately, this volume seeks to create
connections among distinct geographical zones, different cultures, and
varied linguistic contexts, exploring the central role of Spanish as a
world language through a socio-historical lens.
