Happy New Year from the Study Abroad Team @ IEFP!

We've been hearing all sorts about rumors about
Yale's Year or Term Abroad program -- while
standing in line at local coffee shops and
restaurants, during info meetings and
appointments, and from other offices on campus
who also hear questionable bits of information
about study abroad from students. To address
these issues we will periodically include a
"Question(s) of the Week" section to our study
abroad list-serv announcements. Feel free to
share this information with anyone you hear spreading incorrect information!
Here is this week's installment ...

Questions of the Week...
1. Do I pay Yale tuition to study abroad on non-Yale programs?
Answer: No! Students on Year or Term Abroad who
are approved to study abroad on non-Yale programs
(for a list of programs, please see the Regions
section of the study abroad web site
http://yale.edu/iefp/studyabroad/approved/index.html?mm=3)
do not pay Yale tuition, nor are they billed by
Yale for a study abroad fee. Tuition and fees
are paid directly to the program or university
you will be attending abroad -- you pay nothing
to Yale for the semester or year that you are
abroad on a non-Yale program. Please note that
students on the Peking University-Yale University
Joint Undergraduate Program in Beijing or
Yale-in-London are billed by Yale for their semester abroad.

2. But if I go on a non-Yale program, can I still use my financial aid?
Answer: Yes! Your financial aid travels with
you to non-Yale programs while on Year or Term
Abroad. Students study plans must apply to the
Yale study abroad committee, and receive their
approval, in order to take financial aid with
them (see
http://yale.edu/iefp/studyabroad/faq.html?mm=1#deadlines
for deadline information). Students who take a
leave of absence to study abroad are not eligible to receive financial aid.

Scholarship for London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE)
Academic Year General Course
The John C Phelan General Course
Scholarships: Three new awards available
annually to students joining the General Course
in 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10. Each
scholarship has a value of £7,000, covering more
than half the total tuition fee. They have been
generously donated by Mr. John Phelan, an alumnus
of the General Course and a Member of the Board of the LSE Centennial Fund.

All General Course applicants who are resident
nationals of the United States are eligible to
apply for the scholarships, with awards being
made on the basis of both academic merit and
financial need. To apply, students should
download and complete an application form from
http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/studentServicesCentre/financialSupportOffice/UgAppOverseas/JohnCPhelan.htm.
Completed scholarship application forms should be
returned with an academic reference to the
School's Financial Support Office. Applicants
need not have received an offer of a place on the
General Course to do this but they must hold an
offer by the scholarship application deadline of
27 April 2007 in order to be considered. General
Course applications will, however, continue to be
accepted until 7 September 2007.

LSE General Course information, and application
materials, can be found at
http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/generalCourse/.
General Course applications for the 2006-07
academic year are now being accepted. LSE has no
application deadline, but reviews and approves applications on a rolling basis.

Attention Sophomores! Early Application Deadline for Spring 2008
Oxford/Cambridge spring terms: It may seem
terribly early, but now is the time to start
planning for an Oxford or Cambridge study abroad
experience for spring 2008. Application
deadlines for these two universities are much
earlier than for other study abroad programs and
universities. We recommend that you apply no
later than the end of January for a spring 2008
admission. Read The Undergraduate Guide to
Study Abroad at Oxford and Cambridge Universities
at http://www.yale.edu/iefp/studyabroad/oxbridge.html.
