appropriate and interesting programs? What can I do now to plan for a
term, year, and/or summer abroad? Don't forget, you can spend a
semester studying abroad as a 2nd semester sophomore, or during your
junior year -- now is a perfect time to begin planning for this adventure!

additional study abroad meetings and events throughout the weeks
leading up to spring break -- check the calendar often (and read the
Study Abroad E-News!).
Question of the Day ...
Will studying abroad hurt my chances of being elected Phi Beta Kappa?
Answer: No! It is the percentage of straight As of all courses taken
at Yale or in a Yale affiliated program (such as Yale in London and
Yale Summer Session) that count, not GPA, therefore, a Year or Term
Abroad will not hurt your chances of being elected to Phil Beta
Kappa. If you study abroad through Year or Term Abroad, where grades
do not count for PBK because the program is not Yale affiliated, you
are not at a statistical disadvantage for election to PBK. Why not?
Because what ultimately will count will be the percentage of A grades
of those courses you have taken at Yale. Of course, if you stay here
you do have the chance to earn more As, but then you also have to
earn more of them because you will be taking more courses! It is the
percentage of A grades at Yale, not GPA, that counts.
For the rest of the answer to this question, see
http://www.yale.edu/iefp/studyabroad/faq.html?mm=1#phibetakappa. You
can access the Yale Phi Beta Kappa web site at
http://www.yale.edu/pbk/electioninfo.html.
King's College London -- Change in GPA requirement for admission
The cumulative GPA required for admission to the visiting student
program at KCL is now 3.3 across all the departments (in the past,
War Studies and English required higher GPAs -- they will now require
the same 3.3 GPA as other departments at the university).
