Note to Sophomores and Juniors About Applying for Spring Term Abroad
Don't wait until the last minute to submit your Yale Year or Term
Abroad application! If you are planning on studying abroad for
spring 2008, please note that we are now accepting and reviewing
applications (application forms are available at
http://www.yale.edu/iefp/studyabroad/forms.html). Most students who
turn in completed, routine applications (routine = approved Programs;
meet all requirements as listed in YCPS and the study abroad web
site) will have an answer from the Year or Term Abroad Committee
within a week. Do not wait until you have received an acceptance
from your chosen study abroad program before applying to Yale -- your
Yale application must be submitted to IEFP by our deadline (October 15).

Study Abroad Applications --
the Home School Nomination/Approval Forms
(I know this section is a bit long, but please read carefully!)
For those of you who are in the process of completing study abroad
program applications, a few notes on the approval forms included with
most applications ...

1. These forms have various names, such as Undergraduate Approval
Form, Home School Nomination, Home School Approval Form, etc. All
are essentially the same thing -- a form that asks questions about
good academic standing, if you've been approved by Yale to study
abroad, and how the credit transfer works.

2. For academic semester/year study abroad: these forms need to be
filled out by one of the study abroad advisors in IEFP. We request
that you bring these forms in to IEFP, along with your Year/Term
abroad Program dean's form, and an addressed, stamped envelope. We
will fill out the program form within two to three business days, and
send it out. Please be sure you fill out your portion of the form
before leaving it for us. Please note that next week, Susan and Karyn
will be out of the office from Wednesday through Friday
(10/10-12). No forms will be completed during that time, but we will
take care of them as quickly as possible after our return to the
office on the 15th.

3. Specific info for CIEE and Butler forms: CIEE forms have two
parts -- one is a general section asking if the student has their
home school's approval to study abroad, the other is a more in-depth
evaluation of your adjustment to college life, etc. IEFP will fill
out the first part of these forms, but will ask that you have your
dean or academic advisor fill out the second part. For Butler forms,
please make sure you leave both pages of the form with this office --
the first page has your information, including the programs to which
you are applying, and the second page is the part we will out. We
(and Butler!) need both these pages to stay together.

Any questions about this, or any other aspect of the application
process, please call the office (432-8684/8685) to schedule an appointment.

Study Abroad Study Break in Morse
Monday (10/8)
Year/Term Abroad Program
Common Room, 9:00pm
    * Speak with Morsels who have studied abroad -- learn about their
programs, what it was like to be away from Yale, how it worked with
their major, etc.
    * Munchies will be served.

China Night
Wednesday, October 10 @ 8pm
Branford College, Trumbull Room
All are welcome!
The Yale community is invited to join IEFP, International Affairs,
and the Branford College Dean's Office for a night of informal
discussion about the culture, history, current politics, and language
of China. Share and view photos and videos of students' past
experiences working, studying, and volunteering in China -- and eat
some tasty Chinese food too!

It's all about the sports ...
If you are planning on studying abroad, you need to learn about the
culture of your host country, right? Well, one way to do that is to
stay up on how the local teams are faring in rugby.

Rugby World Cup Quarterfinals -- showing this weekend at The
International Center
The International Center will be screening select matches of the 2007
IRB Rugby World Cup. A $2 donation per person is requested to off set
the costs. For a schedule of this week's matches, see:
