Study Abroad Info Meeting - Tomorrow @ 1pm
Do you have general questions about planning for and applying to study abroad this summer or fall? If so, come to our Friday Study Abroad Info Meetings - it's the best way to get an overview of all the options available to you, and to learn about the new web-based application process. We will be holding these meetings every Friday afternoon between now and Spring Break. Here is the info on tomorrow's meeting:
When: Friday, January 23 @ 1pm
Where: CIE, 55 Whitney Ave., Room 305
Summer Abroad - A Reminder of New Application Process for 2009
Are you thinking of studying abroad this summer?
Do you want to receive Yale credit for summer study with programs not run by Yale?
Do you want to receive International Summer Award funding for summer study abroad?
If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then you need to be aware of the new Summer Abroad program through the CIE's study abroad office. Students who wish to receive Yale College credit and/or ISA funding for summer study abroad on programs run by outside organizations/universities will now have an application process similar to that in existence for study abroad during the academic year. If you wish to receive credit and/or ISA funding you will now apply for approval prior to studying abroad. There is an approved list of programs, and the courses will be signed off on prior to study abroad by the DUS of the relevant department. To begin searching for approved summer programs, please go to the Opportunities page of the Center for International Experience web site (http://www.yale.edu/yalecollege/international/opportunities/index.html) and click on "Search for International Opportunities." Once you find the right program, you will click on the "Start Applying" button on the program's info page. Please remember that this online process is only for the internal Yale application process - you will still need to apply directly to your program/university of choice for admission.
Summer Abroad application deadline: noon, Friday, April 17
If you are applying to Yale Summer Session courses abroad or Yale-in-London's summer sessions, then you apply as normal through YSS and YiL. The Summer Abroad program is only for students who are applying to programs run by outside organizations/universities. If you have any questions about Summer Abroad, please call Pam at 432-8684 to schedule an appointment with a study abroad adviser - or come to one of the Friday study abroad info meetings (see above or).
Peer Advisers
If you have questions about international opportunities for Yale College students, one additional source of info is your Residential College Peer Coordinator. Each college has one student designated as the 'go to' person for questions about international options. These volunteer coordinators have participated in one or more of the opportunities offered through the Center for International Experience, and has been trained to provide students with an overview of all the international opportunities available to undergraduates. While we would like to emphasize that it is still important for students interested in these activities to meet with an adviser at CIE, we know that students who have participated in an experience abroad are often among the best sources of encouragement and information. Please feel free to contact the representative from your college today. For a listing of the Peer Coordinators, go to http://www.yale.edu/yalecollege/international/advising/peer_advising/index.html.
BUTEX North American Student Scholarships 2009-10
If you will be studying abroad in England, Scotland or Wales during the 2009-10 academic year, you may be eligible to apply for the BUTEX North American Student Scholarship. The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a UK university which is BUTEX affiliated. Your study abroad or exchange place must be for the academic year 2009/10 and your place must be for a minimum of one semester. Information and application forms for this scholarship can be found at http://www.butex.ac.uk/?q=node/38.
