As far as I know, the British system honours degree is usually 3 years of
coursework and a graduation thesis done in the 4th year. If it’s designed
to take 5 or 6 years, a case could be made for equating it to an American
master’s. An American bachelor’s is 4 years of coursework and in many
departments a graduation thesis. A master’s in the States is roughly 2
years of coursework after the bachelor’s plus a master’s thesis. A
British system honours degree seems similar to a magister in Sweden and
other European countries where a magister takes 4 years.
